SAILING 2026
22-26 April 2026
Small boat familiarisation in St Mawes. A programme of half day sails with skippers Debbie and Will - to familiarise new members with sprit rig, sailing an open boat without a centreboard, anchoring, rowing and using beaching legs.
Also the first chance for these 2 yawls to sail together and try out camping overnight and using the cooking gear.
22-25th May 2026 Gorran Haven
a 3 day sailing expedition exploring around Gorran Haven and wild camping on beaches or on board, under a boom tent. Camping gear provided.
Outdoor Girl and Wild Boy are replicas of 1880s Gorran Haven Crabbers and we are going to visit the village of our roots. We will use trailer to maximise the sailing in Mevagissey Bay, or explore Fowey River if weather is bad.
11-14 June Falmouth Classics 2026
Its only a short sail accross to Falmouth for the International Shanty Festival with venues all around town and Falmouth Classics. On Sun 14th is a parade of sail for small boats. If we want to escape the hubub one night Restronguet Creek is tranquil with salt marsh and ancient quays and pubs.
30 June - 2nd July Mounts Bay Raid 2026
Starting from Newlyn our little fleet will explore Mounts Bay around St Micheals Mount, Prussia Cove or West to Lamorna and the granite cliffs of Lands End.
Towards the end of the week traditional craft will be arriving for Mousehole Sea Salt and Sail Festival.
If the sea is too rough for small boats in Mounts Bay we will move them by trailer and explore from St Ives, on the North coast, perhaps meeting up with the St Ives Jumbos.
3rd -5th July 2026 Mousehole Sea,Salt & Sail 2026
The tiny drying harbour of Mousehole in the far west of Cornwall is perfect for small boats with legs. This is the closest the UK has to a French traditional boat festival for ambience.
Join Wild Boy or Outdoor Girl for the festival, camping under our boom tent in primitive style. There will be music and lots of messing about in boats. We wont be the only ones sleeping under canvas. There are sailing and rowing challenges and potentially quite fiesty sailing out in the bay with luggers and traditional craft of all sizes.
CAN anyone join?
This is a new community sailing and rowing club, founded in 2026. St Mawes, Cornwall is our home base.
If you are new to open boat sailing or dinghy cruising then annual membership starts at £50 to come on a skills day with our skippers. Expedition membership to go off sailing and wild camping or take part in a multi day event costs £150 a year. The original 1880 Gorran Haven crabbers were inshore craft - fishing for crab under sail and oar.
